Long before we began the RailfanMotels.com project, our past time was, and still is railfanning. We realize that we are helping many of you out finding motels & hotels that have a view of a railroad line. Well, by popular demand, we have started this web site [RailfanLocations.weebly.com] to showcase in detail several railroad "HOT SPOTS".
The Railfan Locations on this web site are legal locations to watch trains. Many of these locations are railfan parks built just for watching trains, some others may not be parks, but are public locations that other railfans frequent on a daily bases. We want your outings to be a positive adventure. We'll include all the info, maps, area information and tips that will help your visit be the most enjoyable that it can be. We will also list any nearby Railfan Motels that maybe in the area, or general lodging if it’s near the Railfan Location.
Keep in mind, we will try to cover all the bases, but it’s the railroads that will put on the show, Speaking of which.....remember the railroads are in business to operate the heavy industry of which they are, they are not for our entertainment. Track work as well numerous other delays (derailments, accidents, stalled trains, signal / switch failures, etc..) can limit and even stop rail traffic from operating from time to time.
As always, safety is top priority. Stay off railroad tracks. When you see a train, you may be seen as well. Train crews are told to report anybody on railroad property. Keeping away from tracks may continue to allow railroads to tolerate these "railfan parks" without fences.
